Makimedia is on the Microsoft Store
The first version of Makimedia for Windows is out. It's free, it has no ads and no account, and it turns the folders where you keep your films and shows into a library.
Get Makimedia from the Microsoft Store. It runs on Windows 10 and 11.
What you get
- A library made from your own files. Point Makimedia at your folders, and it finds the films and shows inside, with their posters, cast, seasons and episodes from TMDB. Each title is looked up once and kept on your PC, and a file it can't name still shows up and plays.
- The place where you stopped. Continue watching picks up every film and episode where you left it, and shows are grouped into seasons with the next episode ready.
- Film series, in order. Collections and universes gather a series together, in release order or in story order, and show what you've watched and what's missing.
- A player for a mouse and keyboard. Hardware decoding, subtitles found next to your files, audio and subtitle tracks, a delay you can adjust, keyboard shortcuts and an always-on-top mini player.
- Nothing watching you. No account, no ads and no analytics. Your library, settings and watch history stay on your PC.
Why the Microsoft Store
Installing from the Store means there is no installer to download and no warning about an unknown publisher. Makimedia arrives signed, and updates come by themselves, so you always have the newest fixes without thinking about it.
Streaming to your phone and TV: next
Streaming is at the heart of Makimedia: turn it on on your PC, and your phone, tablet and Android TV find it on their own and play your whole library over your home network. The Windows side of that is in this release, under Stream to devices. The other half, Makimedia for Android and Android TV, is on its way to Google Play, and it will be announced here, on this blog and its RSS feed, the day it's out.
Help it grow
- Rate it. A rating on the Microsoft Store helps other people find Makimedia more than anything else.
- Tell us what goes wrong. A film that won't play or a match that's wrong: report it, and include the log file if you can.
- Read the code. Makimedia is open source under the GNU General Public License, on GitHub.
